It’s been a while, but today was just too good of a day to sit back and not say anything. McCain decided that not only would he hold the economic future of this country in suspense, he would keep the American voter in suspense as well by asking to cancel the first debate due to the economic crisis that this country is facing. By suspending his campaign, in a move that his campaign has said puts “country first,” McCain is attempting to try to live up to the motto.
But the reality of the situation is that he is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic after the ship has started to sink. In the last couple weeks Obama/Biden has been holding their lead over McCain/Palin: Gallop has Obama up by a steady three, Rasmussen has Obama up two, ABC/NY Times has Obama at fifty-two percent (the highest a candidate has ever gotten in their poll) and the electoral college state-by-state polling is in Obama’s favor. So far this has been the best showing for a Democratic candidate in a presidential election since Clinton, this late in the game.
Returning to the McCain/Palin camp for a second, did anyone notice how fast his campaign staff lashed out at the media when they couldn’t get the spotlight? In the same week where the McSame campaign kicked out reporters from Palin’s meetings at the UN, to bashing the New York Times (in the same week that the Times runs a story connecting Rick Davis to payments from Freddie Mac), and even manages to piss off David Letterman (now that is a media trifecta).
Forty days to go, and we haven’t even gotten to October yet…
