It's been quiet here on the MDLU over the last week as I've been preparing to take the LSAT tomorrow (At this point, I know what it's like to have mad test anxiety, this is number two for those of you scoring at home). But what really makes me crack up is that the place I'm taking the LSAT is the same place where Hugh Hewitt teaches (That's Hugh Hewitt, Not Dennis Prager. Doh! My Bad). And you thought being freaked out over a new congressman wanting to swear himself in with the Koran was crazy. ( I personally think it should be the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, but more power to him for selecting the book of his faith.)
Also Barrack Obama was down in Lake Forest today speaking before the World AIDS Conference at Saddleback Church. Let me dissect this one for a moment: Rick Warren of "A purpose Driven Life" (Not the other guy, Joel Olsteen), Senator Barrack Obama Democrat and strong '08 presidential material, and Senator Brownback of Kansas speak before a Church. Sounds like there is a joke in there somewhere.
Obama is a great speaker (I saw him speak in Boston at the 2004 DNC) and he no doubt has my vote for the presidency in '08. The fact that he came to a conference, in Conservative Orange County (Well, the section of the County that Obama spoke in is pretty Conservative) to speak on a topic which is truly devastating, should be commended, not condemned by those evangelicals who hold such disregard due to his position on Abortion. If Rick Warren is truly trying to reach out and help in the AIDS crisis, then I also commend him (and his wife) for their work. I might not agree with everything that evangelicals stand for (considering my background) but seeing these two work together might lead to something being done on the issue.
