With the polls opening in just a little less then seven hours (I'm just guessing, this is not an exact science) tomorrow will be another day that I always live for: Election Day.
I could do what some of the other websites in Orange County have done and post a list of my recommendations, but I won't. Instead I'll make only one prediction based on the last Field Poll data that I have: Prepare for a long night.
Westly has run a great campaign, and I feel he is the man who can truly beat Arnold in November. Steve is a middle of the road candidate that has the best shot of attracting cross over voters and the Independents. If Angeleides wins it, it'll be an uphill battle and I don't think the party has the money or the resources to go toe-to-toe with the Republican media machine.
Just to prove my point, I spent most of the day listening to the floor debate on the constitutional marriage amendment. Every television news network led with this, and it inflamed the callers. A decisive issue, a wedge issue, launched on the eve of an election that will no doubt set the course for the Democrats to take back the House in November and my party has to spend their resources fighting the religious right when we should be using it to support our troops, to lower gas prices, to feed the homeless, and (as Lou Dobbs's would agree with) Save the Middle Class.
Vote. That what all of this comes down to: a vote. One individual, in a voting booth (or some of you may have voted already), sealed in by the plastic curtain oblivious to the raging debate outside the walls of the polling station. Who will be the next Sheriff? Who Will the Democrats support (or will the winner cause a irreparable split in the party)? Will Busby pull out a victory in San Diego?
Time will tell, and I predict we won't know until early Wednesday morning (even with all of the new fangle toys the Registrar of Voters will put to the test tomorrow).
UPDATE: Just learned that Orange County is on the list from the Department of Justice that will be under "Observation" for voting irregularities.
