While checking out some of my favorite blogs in the blogosphere, I came across the following post that I just had to take issue with:
"Tuesday’s special election for Cox’s seat in the House reconfirms that southwest Orange County is home to rich, white racists."
Yes, Orange County is home to the rich (Which explains why rent is so @!#$! expensive!) but to say that we are home to racists is taking the vote total to the extreme. We do have a massive NIMBY complex, and we do have a "That's someone elses problem" problem, and we do have a "Thumb your nose at it" attitude, but please do not equate a minority of those who vote in this county with racists. It is unfortunate that the rich in the OC would rather take their money and back a candidate who actually did not take a stance on the whole illegal immigration issue, unlike both Steve Young and Jim Gilchrist who both offered ideas. I even found it odd that "John and Ken" of KFI (Yuck, I hate that station since they got rid of a good friend of mine, Tom Lykis) ripped into Campbell for not showing up for their debate. It just goes to show that in "The OC" if you have Republican next to your name you skate into office, a party by any other name is just fodder for the loser pile.
We have to change that. Yes, we may take positions in Orange County that are not popular with our national brethren, and I am disappointed by that, but if that is what it takes to win, then so be it. Steve Young did finish ahead of Gilchrist, which played out as an upset by some analysts, and showed that a Democrat could possibly pull it off someday. But what really ticks me off in this whole race, and it is primarily the reason why we lost, was the lack of financial resources provided to Steve by the State and National party. He needed the help as he was going up against a large war chest stashed away by the "The OC Rich." We can't fight a county super power with "Sticks and Stones," we need to fight "Fire with Fire." Stop playing with the "Safe Districts" and lets play ball, lets put the money where we can get the upsets and start fighting back.
